  • Johannesburg Central Business District around the Newtown theatre, art, and cultural area. They are proud of their city!
  • Sunrise over Botswana, coming in for our approach to Johannesburg on the morning of March 3 - it has been nearly 20 hours (but 3 days!) since I left Newark.

  • St. Francis, Newclare, Diocese of Johannesburg, where I attended the Clergy Day. This was my first introduction to how secure places are in South Africa - not much to see on the outisde, but a nice closter and garden inside.
  • Driveway of the Amanzi guesthouse.
  • Front gardens of the Amanzi guesthouse, looking into the guest dining area - truly the best place to take breakfast in all of South Africa!

  • A lovely stroll along Rutland Ave in Craighall Park, Johannesburg, to the local Spar grocery or Hyde Park Mall.
  • Some of the homes, while well secured, looked like fortresses rather than homes, though.
  • Most walls are topped with some kind of electric wiring.
  • Nice garden and gated entryway.
  • Jozies love their roundabouts! Even the smallest intersections have them, but they were fun. I never had a problem adjusting to driving on the left.
  • Rutland Ave, in front of my guesthouse.
  • Museum Africa, an interesting collection of historical and cultural tidbits.
